PFTP's Winter 2016 sleeping bag drive raises over £600
Thanks to ticket buyers on our site during October and the generous help of UK drinks brand Amigos, we're delighted to have raised £647.40 for our sleeping bag drive.
An incredible £317.40 was generated in October through the additional donation button on our checkout page, with Amigos also contributing a £330 donation as part of their free-entry Halloween party in Manchester with Inside Out - which saw Eglo Records boss Alexander Nut and Rinse FM's rising star Josey Rebelle play back-to-back all-night-long in basement bar Underdog. The event was part of their Day of the Dead Carnival series, which also saw link-ups with Gett Off in Sheffield and Fiesta Bombarda in Bristol, all taking place across the weekend of 28th & 29th October.
The £647.40 has helped us to buy 44 high-quality sleeping bags for rough sleepers in Sheffield, at a time of year when temperatures are plummetting sharply. With the homeless facing severe challenges on a daily basis as it is, the winter cold is a further risk that can all too easily prove fatal to those unable to find a roof for the night.
James Atkinson, manager of Sheffield's rough sleepers' service Turning Point, who we partnered with for the drive, explains:
"Despite assisting around 150 roofless people into some sort of accommodation every year, there are still times when accommodation can’t be found and some people do have to sleep rough. Being able to provide a sleeping bag in these circumstances is absolutely essential in trying to safeguard the health and wellbeing of some of the most vulnerable people in Sheffield."
Both PFTP and Turning Point would like to thank our site users and Amigos for helping provide these sleeping bags, which will make a real difference this winter. Find out more about what Turning Point do on their website, and for broader advice and information regarding homelessness we suggest consulting either Crisis or Shelter (there are also many other great homelessness charities operating across the UK on both a local and national scale).
