Bristol's The Jam Jar seeking Crowdfunding support
The Jam Jar, a community arts space in the heart of Bristol, has launched a Crowfunder campaign in a bid to raise funds to support their application for a full premises license.
The venue, formerly known as The Old Malthouse, has provided a creative hub in the city centre for the past few years, hosting live performances as well as housing a purpose built recording studio, a creative suite and a green roof garden. Earlier this year they applied for a full license that would allow them to serve alcohol and host music events beyond 11pm, with a view to securing the venue's future through the increased income this would generate.
Having been met with a number of initial objections from local authorities and residents on grounds of noise they've been forced to put the license application on hold, and have opened up an appeal to the community for financial help in getting the venue suitably sound-proofed and up-to-scratch for the premises' license to be accepted. Work required includes fitting double glazing, reflooring the venue, and acoustic tests and treatment, and they are hoping to raise a total of £40,000 to complete all the necessary treatment.
