Radio 1 reveal new residents - Nastia, Saoirse, Denis Sulta & Sherelle

10 September 2019

BBC Radio One has released several new additions to its residency list. Ukrainian-born Nastia, Footwork and Jungle DJ Sherelle, crate-digger Saoirse and upcoming  TTC x TNK guest, Denis Sulta are set to join the already-confirmed roster of Charlotte de Witte, HAAi, Jayda G and Special Request.

Kicking off in the early hours of the morning, the new arrangement sees each DJ paired up, taking a Monday a month for an hour each between 1-3am. Nastia and Charlotte de Witte take the first Monday of the month (beginning September 9th), Special Request (Paul Woolford) and Sherelle every second (beginning September 16th), Denis Sulta and Jayda G every third (Sept 23rd) whilst HAAi and Saoirse round off for the fourth (beginning September 30th).

Talking to MixMag about the new project, House DJ Denis Sulta said: “Ever since I was even remotely aware of Radio 1, I aspired to be the voice that I heard through the stereo as it’s one of the biggest radio stations in the world. To be broadcasting my own show on BBC Radio 1 as part of the Residency is something that is absolutely incredible for me. I just think it’s really, really cool."

In a similar vein, Ukrainian born Nastia explains: “Growing up as an artist, being on BBC Radio 1 was the highest point of success I could dream about. It’s a legend, a monster, making so many artists huge and important. For me now, I’m proud to say it’s a platform where I can speak out about music, industry and DJ life … After doing my own radio show in Ukraine for 10 years and having had a three-year break from it, to come back on air with the BBC is that dream finally coming true. What can you expect from me? Different things! I like to surprise!

Catch Denis Sulta live alongside Sally C and Stevie Cox on the 1st of October at The Tuesday Club.
