Portico Quartet play at The Leadmill
Opus Independents and Now Then Magazine are welcoming the Mercury Prize-nominated Portico Quartet to the Leadmill on Wednesday 26th February for the Sheffield leg of their European tour. The instrumental four-piece — who fuse jazz, ambient and minimalist influences with electronic textures — are touring in support of their fifth studio album, Memory Streams. Support comes from Sheffield band Before Breakfast.
Released in October 2019 on Gondwana Records, Memory Streams has been described as the band’s “strongest and most enjoyable” offering in a decade (Clash), one that sees them move further towards a sound palette based on electronics and synths. The band retain their long-standing incorporation of the Hang, a percussion-type instrument that produces something akin to a soft, muted steel-pan tone.
