MIKE GREENWELL (Cosmic Slop / World Treasures Music)

JACK MARTIN (Patterns / Slang In Trance)

While the western world obsesses over vinyl, Brian Shimkovitz maintains his unconditional love for the middle-sibling of the audio-format world: the cassette.

Now celebrating its tenth year in the business, The Awesome Tapes From Africa record label and blog is the outlet for his zealous diggings into the curious world of recorded music on the continent, from which he pulls vibrant Highlife, weird soul and vivacious pop - all enshrined in the peculiar cassette format.

Armed with his box of lovely plastic cases and reels, and two tape-decks, Brian will put on a truly remarkable exhibition of never-heard-before African sounds in the HiFi basement, making his Leeds debut!

Support comes from the finest local selectors Mike Greenwell (Cosmic Slop/World Treasures) and Jack Martin (Patterns / Slang In Trance).

Tickets available through Party For The People raising money for MAP (Music & Arts Production), a local charity that runs education projects for kids not accessing mainstream education. Find out more about MAP and the work they do here:

To celebrate 10 years of the Awesome Tapes From Africa blog, we're excited to host an intimate pre-show talk with Brian Shimkovitz in the cosy surroundings of Outlaws Yacht Club. We'll also be launching an exhibition, taking a retrospective look at cassette tape artwork from the blog & label. Limited to 100 people.
