Intro to Linocut and Ayotzinapa Workshop;
Historical and contemporary look at subversive Mexican Art and practical print making skills
In a special one-off event London Mexico Solidarity and DSFL Print Collective will be running an Intro to Linocut Workshop that will also be an intro to the history of lino / print making and political resitance artwork in Mexico.
This is part of a week of worldwide events, in the run up to the 3rd Anniversary of the forced disappearances of the 43 students from Ayotzinapa, Mexico in Sept 26th 2014. If you would like to make something that is focused on the 43 students disappearance we would love it to be a part of the action we are doing on the 26th of September to demand the return alive of the students and an end of disappearances in the country.
The workshop will begin with a short intro to the history and current events in Mexico but will mostly be practically based, working on a lino design of your choice. Though we will encourage discussions throughout.
Make your own single or multicolor relief prints using linoleum. Lino cutting, a derivative of woodcutting is a printing process in which images are carved from a piece of lino (think kitchen floor tiles). Once the image has been carved into the lino, it is coated with ink and pressed onto paper to create images.
Come with an idea in mind or freestyle the day of.
No experience needed, super fun, come try!
There are 12 spaces available at each workshop
and they must be booked in advance, so that we can be sure of numbers!
£12.50 recommended price, but no one turned away for lack of funds. Our workshops are not-for-profit and completely volunteer run - all the money from ticket sales goes towards materials, equipment and improving the Print Room at DIY Space for London!
We want our workshops to be open to everyone, so please email email@example.com if the full ticket price is prohibitive - or if you have any specific access needs you want to discuss - and we’ll do what we can to make sure you can attend!
You can also email us if the spaces are full but you’d like to be put on the waiting list!
