Matthew Halsall
The Abbeydale Picture House, Sheffield
Wednesday, 10 Oct 2018
19:30 – 23:00
Flying Donkey Events brings you one of the UK's standout jazz musicians at the beautiful Abbeydale Picture House.
Manchester based composer, producer, trumpeter, DJ and founder of Gondwana Records, Matthew Halsall is one of UK’s most creative talents.
A gifted trumpeter with a beautiful, expressive tone, his music has explored his love of the transcendental spiritual and modal jazz of Alice Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders, as well as the more contemporary music of acts such as The Cinematic Orchestra.
Tonight’s rare UK concert features regular collaborators pianist Taz Modi, bassist Gavin Barras and sublime jazz harpist Amanda Whiting plus drummer Jon Scott. Expect to hear music from Matthew’s last two albums, Into Forever and When The World Was One alongside new material.
Support comes from Caoilfhionn Rose (pronounced Keelin) a supremely talented young singer-songwriter from Manchester. Expect beguiling originals driven by Rose’s eclectic taste in music, with influences ranging from The Mummers to Polly Paulusma, Broadcast to Rachel Sermanni, Peter Broderick and many more. Her Gondwana Records debut recording Awaken will be released this September.
