Noted anglophile and brain behind Vancouver's premiere DIY label Kingfisher Bluez (Alison Crutchfield, Mammoth Penguins, No Ditching), Tim the Mute makes music that treads the fine line between exuberant joy and existential crisis - a formula refined to perfection on new album 'Do In Yourself'.
From the booming Jesus and Mary Chain-esque drums that open up his new record, to the driving power-pop guitars that follow, there's no cool-guy pretentiousness or sadlad self-indulgence here, just proper bangers shot through with a sense of melancholy that feels very genuine and real.
It's not often that we get to have Tim over to play, so we've assembled a crack team of legends to celebrate:
No Home is the solo project of London-based songwriter Charlie Joseph. Switching from fuzzed-out, angular guitars to hazy R&B textures, songs tackle Tinder date epiphanies, toxic masculinity and self-preservation.
More bangers from the Kingfisher Bluez stable, on tour with Tim in the UK. Expansive dream-pop with hooks galore.
...AND THE CITY MOUSE:
One of the myriad musical guises of London head Rory Salter (Dym, Tweedle, Pinkgrip, Nervous Energy Records). Warped tape loops, primitive plucked guitars and vocals crafted into sparse, eerie compositions.
