Display kiran leonard western cultures

Pigeon Hands are very proud to present two artists who have individually inspired and excited us with live performances this year. Both Kiran Leonard and Mayshe Mayshe are separately touring the release of a significant album, and are coming together for a special show in one of our favourite venues.

- Kiran Leonard -

Kiran Leonard is a prolific 23-year-old musician, composer and songwriter from Saddleworth, Greater Manchester. Debut album proper Bowler Hat Soup (2014) and follow-up Grapefruit (2016) were both recorded at home, with Kiran playing virtually every instrument himself, and were released by indie giant Moshi Moshi.

Derevaun Seraun (2017), a concept album in five movements inspired by five pieces of literature and arranged for piano, strings and voice, was an ambitious departure. Kiran’s new album, Western Culture, released October 19th, marks Kiran’s first venture into a professional recording studio with a band, and conceptually tackles the role of language in the perception, construction, and perpetuation of real world problems.

Live, Kiran is a formidable presence, and his raw, unapologetic, and adept performance is consistently matched by his band, who are joining him on the current tour.

- Mayshe Mayshe -

York based lo-fi ambient electro-pop artist Mayshe Mayshe elegantly stacks layers of vocal harmony, analogue keyboard, tuned percussion, pedal feedback, and occasionally hair-dryer noise over her skittering, organic beats to create the sonic bed for her brooding vocal hooks.

Claiming influences as diverse as Grimes, Thom Yorke, and Taylor Swift, and at times evoking Bjork, Burial, and Hot Chip-in-down-tempo-mode, Mayshe Mayshe is currently touring to support the release of her enigmatic debut album, ‘Cocoa Smoke’.
