Brandee Younger // The Harp Ecstatic // Church of Sound
St James the Great, London
Sunday, 14 Oct 2018
19:30 – 23:50
It is with warm hearts that we welcome harpist Brandee Younger & her trio to St James the Great. Brandee will be playing 2 sets. The first, The Harp Ecstatic, will consist of a selection of harp tracks, ranging from the well-known to the obscure. The second second will be a recital of Brandee’s own music.
As well versed in performance art as she is in the art of creative risk-taking, Younger challenges commonly held notions in her quest to “make the harp a more relevant force in today’s music.” Younger’s ability to seamlessly inject the harp into arrangements and venues where it has historically been overlooked is a testament to her deep love for and exemplary command of the instrument.
She has worked with jazz leaders and popular hip-hop and R&B titans including Ravi Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders, Jack Dejohnette, Reggie Workman, Common, John Legend, and Lauryn Hill.
On the night we will have food served from the moment doors open at 7.30pm. Church of Sound resident selectors Lexus Blondin & Born Cheating will be on the decks while we all have a bite to eat.
