Hope Works Presents…
Juju & Jordash(Live)
A celebration of 15 Years of Phonica in 2018!!!
Since opening in 2003, Soho institution Phonica has become much more than a mere record shop. The shop has not only become a focal point for London’s blossoming house and techno scene, but also a champion of cutting-edge artists old and new via a string of associated record labels (Phonica White, Karakul and Phonica Special Editions amongst them). This November, Hope Works will be celebrating Phonica’s continuing legacy with a 15th birthday party bustling with DJs and live acts with strong ties to the Poland Street Store.
Heading the line-up is legendary German artist Move D, a producer, label owner and DJ with a particular penchant for collaboration. Although renowned for crafting especially deep house and techno cuts, his vast catalogue includes ambient, IDM, acid and proto-dubstep tracks made alongside such luminaries as Jonah Sharp (as Reagenz), Pete Namlook, Justin Carter (Mister Saturday Night), Jus’ Ed, Sheffield stalwart Rob Gordon and, most recently, Thomas Meinecke.
He’s also collaborated extensively with another of the party’s headline attractions, Juju and Jordash, as experimental live outfit Magic Mountain High. This time round, the Amsterdam-based duo will be presenting their own live show – a spontaneous, seamless, hardware-driven affair of improvised house and techno jams tailored to the needs of Hope Works’ dedicated dancers.
Will Saul needs little introduction. Co-founder of Aus Music, storied producer and a DJ renowned for the fluidity and technical quality of his mixing, Saul’s prolific work rate has seen him release an impressive amount of dancefloor-friendly music in recent times. His most recent EP, Bugs, effortlessly joined the dots between dark warehouse vibes, Carl Craig’s Innerzone Orchestra, and the jazz-wise rhythms of classic West London broken beat. ( he also worked at Phonica in the past - as did MANY a well known DJ today! )
Support comes from a trio of DJs with strong links to Phonica Records. There’s Donna Leake, a dedicated digger, NTS Radio show host and Brilliant Corners resident renowned for the quality and diversity of her musical selections, not to mention the inspired nature of her DJ sets. Nick Williams has worked at Phonica for many years as assistant manager/runs the counter/walls/shop floor. He also has set up Meda Fury which has seen a constant stream of high quality jams emerge from its vaults. Today, he’s also increasingly busy as a DJ in his own right....and a lovely person to boot! Completing the line up is Hope Works’ own Lo Shea, who first released on Phonica White back in 2014 and who also played for them at Record Store day alongside Dj Stingray in the same year. The connection continues.....
