Artwork: Submit to Love Studios

This event marks the launch of a collection of t-shirts influenced by jazz with a local connection, thanks to a collaboration between artists from Submit Love Studios - whose artists have all survived brain injury - and local artist Coline L'Achiver.

Check them out here: https://everpress.com/the-colour-of-jazz

The original artwork was inspired by local favourites like Nubya Garcia and Shabaka Hutchings, as well as jazz masters like Alice Coltrane, Archie Shepp, Chet Baker, Sun Ra and Yusef Lateef. These greats all recorded with the late jazz drummer Clifford Jarvis, who settled in Hackney in the 1980s and taught music at Chats Palace.

Live Music: Grand Union Orchestra

This pioneering collective of world class musicians - now in it’s 35th year - has gained an unparalleled reputation for bringing together musicians and audiences from all over the world. This includes legendary trumpeter Claude Deppa, who has worked with the likes of Miriam Makeba and Manu Dibango, and is arranging a quintet and the collaboration with musicians from Headway East London.

‘You'll revel in its kaleidoscopic blending of jazz and music from across the planet’ - Duncan Heining, All About Jazz

Live Music: Camilla George

MOBO-nominated, Nigerian born saxophonist and star of the award winning group “Jazz Jamaica", Camilla leads her own critically acclaimed project showcasing the stars of the new UK Jazz Scene.

Camilla’s debut album, ‘Isang’ (pronounced E-SANG, which means 'journey' in Ibibio, her native language) and new album “The People Could Fly” have received great critical acclaim.

DJ: Alexis Blondel, aka Lexus Blondin

Lexus gained a reputation for bringing together musicians and music lovers at Total Refreshment Centre - including the likes of Nubya Garcia and Shabaka Hutchings - and Church of Sound.

His knowledge and passion for jazz and worldly music - and ear for a crowd pleaser - shine through in his live DJ sets and regular appearances on Worldwide FM.

Food: Little Baobab - the local pop-up sensations made their mark by bringing recipes from Senegal with a twist, creating flavour combinations to take you out of this world.

DON'T FORGET you must preorder your meal when you buy your ticket! Due to licensing, meals can't be paid for onsite.

Venue: Chats Palace

Chats Palace is a stunning Grade II listed building in Homerton, Hackney. It remains an inclusive, inter-generational arts centre firmly rooted in a rich artistic heritage.

The venue space is fully accessible.
