Midnight Mass - a new format at Church of Sound. Beginning at midnight and lasting till 3am, the night will see a set of originals followed by a curated jam session. We are delighted to announce that the first guest for the inaugural Midnight Mass is none other than Chicago bassist Junius Paul!
Known to followers of the International Anthem catalogue as right-hand rhythmist for Makaya McCraven (appearing on In The Moment, Highly Rare and Universal Beings), known to followers of creative music as a next-generation torch-bearer for The Art Ensemble of Chicago (appearing on their recently released 50th Anniversary LP We Are On The Edge), and known to many musicians as a multi-functional first chair bassist of the Chicago scene, Junius is a force to be reckoned with.
The origins of Paul’s craft go back to playing in church, but his creative voice really developed during jam sessions at clubs like The Velvet alongside members of the AACM, or Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians.
We are not yet able to announce the rest of Junius’ band or the collaborators in the later jam but rest assured, only the best of the best will appear.
