Reel Long Overdub: ZAKIA
wharf chambers, Leeds
Saturday, 25 Jan 2020 – Sunday, 26 Jan 2020
23:00 – 05:00
Reel Long Overdub is the annagramatic sibling to Brudenell Groove.
Under this guise we’ll be booking idiosyncratic selectors, uploading tracks to the ‘Tube (https://bit.ly/36BwF5M) and releasing some music of our own, all with a deeper and more explorative sonic agenda.
Our first RLO features a DJ who blew us away during the 2019 festival season: ZAKIA.
The London-based record-head holds down a bi-weekly show on NTS, "Questing", and frequently freelances as an audio producer and journalist for The Tate, BBC and Boiler Room.
Digging jazz, afrobeat, folk, dub and leftfield, Zakia’s collection paints a sublime kaleidoscopic vision. While her radio shows push a documentary style, always offering deep historical knowledge and a diversity of rhythmic identities, her live DJ sets are positively party-starting. Expect the sweetest, soulful dance music as we go Questing with her on 25th Jan.
Joining her will be residents Aletha and Andrew, who both boast beautiful vinyl collections of their own.
Wharf Chambers is a members' club and you need to be a member, or guest of a member, in order to attend. To join, please visit wharfchambers.org/membership. Membership costs £1 and requires a minimum of 48 hours to take effect.
Please note: We aim to make BG/RLO parties safer spaces and will not tolerate any forms of discrimination, prejudice or offensive behaviour, including but not limited to racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia and ableism. Respect of emotional and physical boundaries is paramount; if anyone has any issues on the night, members of our team will be available to help tackle any problems and provide support should anyone need it. They will be clearly marked and clear-headed, so please don't hesitate to reach out to them (or even just say hi).
With love from BG & RLO x
