We are delighted to welcome steel pan wizard, Fimber Bravo, to perform music from his first album in seven years. A magnetic force at the beating heart of protest music for nearly half a century, Bravo speaks to the resistance:

‘They ban our street voice and they choke we, we still shout ‘you can’t control we’.

The Trinidadian artist has long used his instrument as a tool to fight oppression. The pulsing metallic beat and undulating grooves tumble around his politics. As his label Moshi Moshi put it - 'There is fire in these impactful clarion calls to resist oppression, recognise strength in resilience and fight against the corruption of power.'

His production sounds more joyous than ever, weaving his own fusion of afrobeat and highlife with the glossy sheen of synth-pop and electro from the album’s family of players.

Bravo moved to the UK in 1971 with the 20th Century Steel Band, before taking up with Steel ‘n’ Skin, a community-based arts project in Kilburn that fused music from Africa and the West Indies, further pushing the boundaries of what was possible with the steel pan.

Since then, Bravo has continued to innovate. His superb album Lunar Tredd is his second with Moshi Moshi, featuring regular collaborators such as Zongamin, Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor and Kora player Kadialy Kouyate.

Line up:
Fimber Bravo - Steel Pan / Vox

Susumu Mukai - Bass
Alexis Taylor - Synths
